Week 1: We’ll begin at the very beginning — digging for clay straight from the earth, discovering it beneath our feet, and breaking it up to dry in the sun.
Week 2: Once dry, we’ll pound and sift our wild clay, preparing it for soaking and carefully removing any impurities.
Week 3: Our clay will be hung in pillowcases outdoors, slowly draining to the perfect consistency — a wonderfully hands-on, old-fashioned process.
Week 4: With our beautifully prepared wild clay, we’ll sculpt animal figures inspired by nature around us.
Week 5: The grand finale! We’ll wrap our creations in combustible materials and fire them in a barrel outdoors, transforming them with rich, smoky colours and magical effects.
Alongside this, we’ll also be building cob structures — perhaps cosy houses for toads, hedgehogs or even fairies — and crafting characterful tree gargoyles from our wild clay.
An earthy, creative adventure from soil to sculpture!
