Starting 24th February- Mixed Ability Pottery Course

£135.00

5 week Tuesday Evening Adult course

6:30pm-8:30pm

Starting Tuesday 24th February and running to 24th March.

Whether you are touching clay for the first time or are a returning potter looking to refine your craft, this mixed-ability course offers a supportive space to develop your skills at your own pace.

Our workshop is designed with "scaffolded" learning in mind. This means we provide structured guidance for beginners while offering advanced technical challenges and independent project support for those with more experience.

What to Expect:

For First-Time Potters: If you are new to the Art Shed, we begin with the fundamental building blocks of ceramics. You will receive step-by-step demonstrations in:

  • The Basics: Mastering pinching, coiling, and slab-building.

  • Surface Magic: Introduction to mark-making, slip application, and glazing.

  • Structured Success: Your first projects will be guided with specific prompts (such as functional mugs or decorative bowls) to ensure you leave with pieces you are proud of.

For Returning Learners & Experienced Potters: For those who have attended our evening courses before, the "scaffolding" shifts to support your individual artistic voice. You will be encouraged to:

  • Expand Your Scale: Moving from small vessels to larger, more complex forms.

  • Refine Your Technique: Incorporating advanced methods like Kurinuki (carving from solid blocks) or using specialised moulds.

  • Independent Projects: While the tutor is always on hand for troubleshooting, you will have the freedom to design your own work, with tailored feedback on structural integrity and aesthetic finish.

Why Mixed Ability?

We believe that creativity thrives in a community. Beginners often bring fresh, uninhibited ideas, while experienced potters offer technical inspiration. Set in the calm, natural surroundings of Brookside Eco Farm, this course is as much about well-being and connection as it is about clay.

Our Tutor’s Role: Pippa, an Arts Educator with over 30 years of experience, specialises in differentiated teaching. This means she adapts her instruction to meet you exactly where you are, offering a "helping hand" for the tricky bits and "room to grow" when you’re ready to fly solo.
